Dear PCGS Friends,

Welcome to our 2010-2011 season! The Piedmont Classic Guitar Society board has been busy planning some great opportunities for our guitar community. This fall alone we’re offering four concerts and two Community Play-ins.  PCGS will join together with Wake Forest again this year and will produce the Minneapolis Guitar Quartet on Sunday, October 10th at 3:00pm, in Brendle Recital Hall. Parisian guitarist, Florian Larousse, winner of the 2009 GFA, will be playing on Saturday, October 30th at 8pm, in the Moon Room in Dana Auditorium, Guilford College.  Also at Guilford College on Saturday, November 20th at 8pm, Benjamin Beirs will perform. To wrap-up our fall season, we’ll have our Triad Community Concert in Brendle Hall at Wake Forest on Friday, December 3rd at 7:30pm. This concert features local high school and college ensembles and soloists—this is a great opportunity to see all the wonderful work our students are doing around the Triad.

This year we’ve decided to add a mini-lecture series to our Community Play-ins.  Our first play-in will be Saturday, October 9, 2:00pm, at the Kathleen Clay Edwards Library.  Ken Brown and Lauren Luck will present a brief talk--A New Approach to Learning: Alternative Tactics and Methods for Today’s Guitar Student. The 2nd play-in will be Saturday, October 20th, 2:00pm, also at the Kathleen Clay Edwards library in Greensboro. Our attendance and participation at play-ins has increased three-fold over the past two years.  These experiences are designed for any level player, and afford players the opportunity to share music with other guitarists in the community. No need to sign-up--just show up with your guitar in hand and play. We offer a positive and safe environment for all ages and levels.

Look for an area Teacher’s Concert in the spring, featuring local teachers playing solos and duets. We’re also exploring the possibility of another collaboration with The Piedmont Blues Preservation Society and The Garage in 2011.

PCGS is focusing on increasing memberships this year, thus, we’re attempting to create true incentives for our members.  This season, two of the four concerts will be free for members. Student memberships are only $7.50 and individuals are $15 per year. We’re now renewing memberships annually on the date you join, so it’s never too late or not the right time. There are several easy ways to join including our web site (paypal), and sending in the attached membership form on the back of our season flier.

We hope you’ll join us in celebrating the guitar through attending our events and joining if you haven’t already.  We’re lucky to have such wonderful interest in the guitar in the Piedmont region, and PCGS is excited to be able to bring great players to our area. Thank you for your support and we look forward to seeing you this season!

Happy Guitarring!
