President's Letter
Dear Friends of the Piedmont Classic Guitar Society,
Welcome to the beginning of our new season. I’m pleased to announce that we are currently 106 members strong! As the society continues to grow, we know it will further strengthen our Piedmont guitar community through wonderful performances, and opportunities for personal and professional development.
Our Community Play-Ins are opportunities for anyone to practice the art of performing, and also serve to take the classical guitar into our communities. All levels are welcome, and no advance notice is required. Please click for more information on dates, times and places.
The PCGS is very happy to present classical guitarist Ricardo Cobo this season. Ricardo will play in Dana Auditorium at Guilford College, on Thursday, November 15th, 7:30pm. Cobo’s concert is part of a celebration honoring internationally acclaimed pedagogue, Aaron Shearer. We are hopeful that we will be able to have Mr. Shearer as part of the evening’s events, and look forward to some special surprises. Manuel Barrueco, another former student of Mr. Shearer, will also be performing in his honor at NCSA on October 13th.
On Saturday, December 8th, 8:00pm, we will host the Triad Community Guitar Concert. Some featured student ensembles will include those from: Bishop McGuinness High School, Weaver High School for Performing & Visual Arts, North Carolina School of the Arts, and Guilford College. Also performing are the Winston-Salem Guitar Septet, and The Piedmont Guitar Orchestra. This is a gathering to bring guitarists together from all around the Piedmont, and to showcase our students. If you are interested in participating as a performer, please contact Alan Hirsh at alnsalnjo@earthlink.net. This concert will be the center of our Annual Membership Drive, and will include a silent auction and other incentives for both renewing and new members. We look forward to a true celebration of the guitar!
We are changing the dates of annual membership to the Society to run from January 1st to December 31st of each year. Existing members will therefore maintain their active status beyond this year’s September expire date. We are working to reach a goal of 150 members in 2008, and would very much appreciate your renewal as soon as possible. If you renew on or before the November 15th concert, you will receive an additional discount to see Ricardo Cobo, and complimentary admission to our Triad Community Guitar Concert in December. If you wish to renew by mail, you can use the attached form.
As always, we encourage and welcome your feedback--after all, it is our members that we are trying to serve.
Hope to see you all this fall with a guitar in hand, or at least in heart— Sincerely, Kami Rowan
